In 2017, a major scandal rocked the travel community when it was revealed that 24-year-old 'billionaire' William Baekeland didn't exist and allegedly committed a one million dollar fraud. Our founder, Harry Mitsidis, helped by a number of others, uncovered that his entire persona was fabricated.

Baekeland has been spotted working as island secretary on Pitcairn Island, now using the name William Gordon; he has since left. Despite his new identity, he continues to propose expensive trips to unsuspecting travellers, proving his deceitful tactics remain unchanged.

PHOTO: The San Lorenzo area of Ecuador's Esmeraldas province was historically an important port for the export of balsa wood and tagua palms. The economy now largely revolves around fishing and agriculture, although the region still suffers from illegal logging of the nearby forests. Today, this corner of the Esmeraldas province is a hotspot for ecotourism due to its proximity to the Chocó rainforest.
