We are SO excited to share this year’s Refugee Week artwork by the incredibly talented artist @8bitfaz. Blending pixels, shapes and minimal colour palettes, 8bitFaz has captured the spirit of this year's theme "community as a superpower."

Community is the incredible everyday. Ordinary and extraordinary. Simple acts of shared generosity. Kindness multiplied to become an unstoppable force!

This Refugee Week everyone is invited to spend time with friends and build new connections in and beyond our neighbourhoods. From communal meals and open air film screenings, to football matches and music making, let’s share the feelings of welcome and belonging. Listening, learning, laughing together.

This year, we are delighted to have collaborated with Moomin 80 to illustrate this year’s Simple Acts. 

Simple Acts are everyday actions we can all do to stand with refugees and make new connections in our communities. Whether you build your own event or activity around a Simple Act or simply take part during Refugee Week, you’ll be part of a movement of people everywhere taking small steps to create a big change.

Join Bosla Arts for a day of creative solidarity at The Jago on Sunday 9 March. Including an Open Mic: Solidarity Sessions and a Creative Writing Workshop led by @fedzillamusic! A space to come together, express and harness community.

This Fellowship was set up by the London Transport Museum in memory of Khadija Saye who worked as a Young Freelancer at the LTM at the time of her transition in June 2017 in the Grenfell Tower. Khadija was an inspiring activist, photographer, artist and educator just at the beginning of her career. The LTM programme seeks to support more young people (18-25), who share Khadija's drive and ambition, into their careers in arts and culture.

The fellowship will run from Monday 28th April 2025 to Friday 24th April 2026.

MAIA Weekender 2025: Curating the Culture, 7 - 9 March. Building on “Organising ABUELOS” back in October 2024, this weekend gathering will celebrate the legacy of MAIA's work as they transition towards ABUELOS and explore perspectives on our cultural practices, pride, history, and binding connections. ABUELOS is a cultural centre with accommodation, as a site of radical hospitality and artistry.

Join MAIA for a weekend of talks, performances, art exhibitions, food and more exploring three key themes:

1) Archiving and Storytelling 

2) Building for Ourselves and Our Communities 

3) Celebration.

• The Good Immigrant- A collection of 21 short essays exploring why people migrate to the UK, why they stay and what it means to be ‘other’ in a country that doesn’t seem to want you, doesn’t truly accept you – however many generations you’ve been here.

• 'Community as a Superpower' Playlist  - share the spirit of community with our playlist for this year's Refugee Week theme. 

• Dhalinyaro (Youth) - A film about friendship,  sisterhood and navigating life together. Amina and her two best friends will have to choose what to do in the future. Should they stay in Djibouti or go to University in France?
