Inspirational Nugget of the Week
There are situations in a knowledge worker's life when you feel drained of energy because nothing really excites you. You feel you have some energy to spend, but the barrier of starting a task is just so high that you'd rather not start anything at all.
I recently had a situation like that at work: my team's projects were dull to me, I wasn't convinced of the team's mission, I had the feeling I couldn't do anything about it, and as a result I was drained of motivation and willpower. Every small task took forever, and a big part of that was me fighting against my inner resistance.
The way to get out of such a "bore out" situation is to take ownership of your role. Write down what you want your role to look like: what responsibilities do you want to take over? Do you want to take over leading those long and boring status meetings to make them short and meaningful again? Would you like to take responsibility for one of the team's projects to give it (and yourself) structure and purpose again? Generate options, because options are what you need in a situation you feel you can't do anything about!
The idea is to take control. Having control gives you purpose and options.
A great way to get into the news is to have a data leak that leaks the data of your users to the public. If you'd rather not be in the news because of that, you should probably think about encrypting your data at rest.
