Why is this Newsletter different from all other Newsletters?

Ostrava Newsletter 74 - Purim March 2023

Why is this Newsletter different from all other Newsletters?

The first Ostrava Newsletter appeared in December 2006. Since then, the Circle has grown in size and activity – we have achieved a great deal. All the activity was facilitated and supported by administrative help from Kingston, Surbiton and District Synagogue administrative resources.

Changing circumstances mean that they are no longer able to provide this support but, happily, the Memorial Scrolls Trust (MST) will welcome us and are happy to provide the necessary ongoing support. It is the MST who sent the Ostrava sefer to Kingston on loan and which provided the inspiration for our activities.

What does this mean in practice?

Practically, there will be very little noticeable change. The main difference you will see is the Newsletter Header. Instead of Kingston there will be the Memorial Scrolls Trust name and logo.

Our website (https://kingstonostravacircle.org/) will continue to hold back copies of all our Newsletters etc and will continue to function for several months. However, all the material will be copied into the MST website (https://memorialscrollstrust.org/) and will be available for you to read. The history of our activities is all there in our 73 Newsletters and in the Ostrava archive we have helped to build up in the Jewish Museum in Prague

Monica and David will, of course, continue to be involved and contacts for members of the Circle. They will be joined in this by Donal Savage (projects@memorialscrollstrust.org) as the third member of the contact group. David also has a new email address: ostrava@memorialscrollstrust.org  although his old email address is still operational

It means that ongoing support for the Ostrava Circle is now much more secure.

What are the next steps?

Our 5th campaign of laying Stolpersteine continues this year when we will lay 22 Steine. This is our 5th campaign and we will have arranged the laying of 86 Steine and 24 plaques in the Ohel in the Jewish cemetery.

Our next Newsletter will appear at Pesach and we continue to look forward to receiving stories and photographs of your families.
