An explosion has been reported at Qena Oil Port, Yemen. Open source reports state the explosion was the result of a drone attack following the arrival of an oil tanker at the port. The drone was downed and the attack prevented, however the tanker had to stop the unloading operation and departed as a result of the incident.
The attack comes a day after US ambassador to Yemen, Stephen Fagin, visited Hadhramaut in support of the Saudi-appointed Presidential Council government, after the Yemeni army carried out a warning operation which resulted in stopping the looting of Yemeni oil through the port of Al-Daba, east of the city of Mukalla, the capital of Hadhramaut.
The port of Qena is located 20 kilometers from the port of Balhaf, which exports Yemeni liquefied gas. Balhaf port operations have been suspended since the Emirati forces took control of the region in 2015.
