KALPA curates a refined selection of artworks from the three artists' most iconic series. Each piece on display, from paintings to sculptures, encompasses feelings of emotional intimacy, appreciation for natural processes with their earthy tones and characteristics of irregularity and imperfection.
In alignment with the themes presented in the ELEMENTAL exhibition, Eleanor Herbosch's Raw Umber paintings, crafted through a distinctive impasto technique utilizing soil and paint, encapsulate the vibrant essence of the earth. Tom Palmer's alabaster Vault Vessels, characterised by their interplay of light and reflections along with their concave and convex forms, embody both the delicacy and robustness inherent in the intricate Medieval architecture of vaulted structures, while examining the relationship between the object's form and function. Akiko Hirai's ceramic Moon Jars, which revisit the classic design of Korean moon jar vessels, are further enriched by unexpected colors or imperfections, including unintentional divots and bumps that emerge during the firing process.
