Week 22: Action of the Week
Make all online purchases on one day of the week and always choose the option to combine shipments.
Thank goodness for online shopping, especially during this past year of the pandemic. But now that some places are reopening and it is easier to purchase items, it is time to check in about our shopping habits.
There is the question of what’s better – shopping online or in a store? While the jury is still out, and while realistically we will need to continue to do both, we can go ahead and change some shopping habits to lower our environmental impact.
First off, how about keeping a list for all online items as though you were going to the store once a week? This way you can choose the option to combine shipments, which will use less packaging and less gas for the delivery trucks. It sure is easier to click a button instead of driving to a store, so how about asking yourself if you REALLY need that item in your cart? The weekly grocery list should help with that as well. Online shopping results in more returns for various reasons, so training your mind away from impulse shopping will be more efficient for you and better for the environment. In addition, some shopping websites allow you to choose a charity that receives donations every time you shop, so that’s another way to make a difference if you have that option.
Rethinking your online shopping habits will keep money in your wallet while helping to reduce your environmental impact by creating less waste - whether it's from the packaging to ship the item to you or simply the item itself that wasn’t really needed in the first place!
At 7th Generation Advisors we are diligently working with scientists, policymakers, activists and clean tech companies to create a clean energy economy for all, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and to protect all living things seven generations into the future. We care about the future of our planet. Will you join us?
