Thank you to all who weighed in with support for Pennsylvania's state parks and forests and the trails and other priorities set out by Governor Shapiro in this year's budget. As of press time, word is that the budget passed and was signed late last night. We're still looking at how everything has been apportioned - including support for native plants and pollinators. Check out this guest essay in the always-good-reading PA Environment Digest Blog by biologist and PPFF member Nate Reagle. Nate's focus here is on pending legislation to prioritize planting of natives at ALL state facilities.

Another huge thank you goes out to the members of People First Federal Credit Union, whose opt-in to online banking statements prompted the credit union to donate $1,570 in native plants and trees this week. There's more to come as additional members take advantage of this more environmentally friendly option. What a wonderful gift!

Are you - or do you know - an engaged young person (high school through age 35) who might serve on DCNR's NextGen Advisory Council? 

According to the website, "[t]he objectives ... include:

• Promoting youth involvement in environmental issues
• Providing diverse perspectives to the department
• Facilitating networking opportunities and experience for council members both within and outside of the department"

That sounds like a great opportunity to be heard. Applications to serve are due by July 31 and can be accessed at the bottom of that webpage.
