Winter Extras Appeal 2020 - Update

Fundraising Update - Request for Support

Food & Essential Items Needed

From the President

Firstly I would like to thank all our volunteers, donors and supporters of Perth Homeless Support Group without you guys we could not do what we do every week.

Well what a crazy couple of months we have just gone through and still are. Perth Homeless Support Group have had to adapt and change quite significantly over this time. We were first moved from the state library almost two years ago and we had to find a suitable place to help those most vulnerable in our community. So the hunt was on for a place and we thought we had found our forever home. Wellington Park in East Perth this is where we decided would be the perfect place and it was, bringing much needed community environment for those experiencing homelessness. Having settled into our new home things were going along very well helping on average between 160-200 people every Sunday morning. We thought we were settled.

But there were talks of a homeless hub that The City of Perth were working on to allow those experiencing homelessness to have one designated area to access all services. After long talks with The City it was decided that we will be moving to Moore Street to deliver our service. Perth Homeless Support Group were on the move again. After a lot of planning and a few changes with how we deliver our service we were all set to go at Moore Street. Having done six weeks at Moore Street we were still seeing our regulars and a lot of new faces as well. Things were going along very well and we had our service flowing along.

Enter COVID 19 and let's just say we adapted on the run with no planning or idea on what to do to keep helping those most vulnerable in our community. We implemented policies on the run and made huge changes to continue to help. Our service now comprises two volunteers doing a mobile roving service through the city handing out pre-packaged care packs to all who need. This is working very well and we WILL continue to adapt to the ever changing situation to help all those experiencing homelessness.

I would like to thank the Team at City of Perth for their efforts and commitment during these testing times and look forward to a long term relationship into the future.

Winter Extra's Appeal Update

The consignment has arrived in Australian waters and is sitting off shore from Fremantle port waiting to be given permission to be unloaded.

Given the situation at Fremantle port with cruise ships we hope that the consignment will be ready for us to collect this week.

Once collected the consignment will travel to the depot in Bayswater where a small team of volunteers will open the boxes in preparedness for the coming cold months.

Thank you to all the members who have participated in this very successful project. See the Need, Make a Difference.

Fundraising Update - Request for Support

Unfortunately our many fundraising events including movie sessions had to be cancelled recently due to the mandated social distancing requirements.

This has had an unfortunate flow on effect to our bank balance, so we ask that you donate funds on a once off or ongoing basis through the Paypal Giving Fund.

Contributing through the Paypal Giving Fund is fee free so your donation will go directly towards supporting the homeless with everyday essentials.
