With over 700 clubs on campus, UConn students are constantly finding innovative ways to spotlight their organizations. Among the many students driving digital efforts on campus is Olivia Olak, a junior majoring in Marketing with a concentration in Digital Marketing & Analytics, who recently took on a leadership role as Website Manager for the Marketing Society. This fall, the Marketing Society launched its brand-new website, a project Olivia spearheaded. She shared insights into the development process and what the site means for the organization.
“The idea for creating a website came from the Marketing Society executive board’s vision to provide members, alumni, and the public with a digital hub for information, engagement, and networking,” Olivia explained. This website “highlights upcoming events, showcases member opportunities, and strengthens the organization's presence at UConn.” She added that it also reinforces the society’s brand identity for prospective members and alumni.
Although Olivia had prior experience with other website platforms, using Aurora WordPress, UConn’s official website builder, was new territory. She embraced the challenge by leveraging her existing skills and diving into the platform's capabilities. "...it taught me how to adapt creatively and find solutions that still align with the Society’s goals,” she added. The last step involved testing and troubleshooting to ensure the site was fully functional, accessible, and user-friendly.
The launch of the new website marks a significant milestone for the Marketing Society, ushering in a new era of digital engagement. Looking ahead, Olivia plans to maintain and update the site regularly while collaborating with the executive board to explore new opportunities. “The goal is to expand its reach and inspire members to take full advantage of the opportunities the Marketing Society offers,” she said.
