Since October 2019, the Outaouais Regional Environment and Sustainable Development Council (CREDDO) and the Society for Nature and Parks – Outaouais Valley Section (SNAP-VO) have been carrying out planning activities in the part of a process to create a protected area of approximately 1,150 km2 in the watersheds of the Noire and Coulonge rivers (MRC Pontiac) by the government of Quebec. The creation of the proposed protected area would increase the area of protected territory in Outaouais by a little more than 3% while contributing to the efforts of the federal and provincial governments to achieve the objective of protecting 30% of its territory by 2030.
As of August 30th, 2023, the government of Quebec has set aside 852.6 km2 of the territory. However, we continue to suggest an expansion of the protection zone in particular to include the eastern branch of the Coulonge River and to better protect the sensitive habitats found there.
It is in this context that we would like to present to you the activities carried out through this project and give you a space to express yourself on this subject!
To do this, we are organizing three discussion workshop* (for free) on November 29th (Maison du Citoyen, Gatineau), December 4th (Spruceholme, Fort Coulonge), and December 6th (on Zoom).
You are all welcome to join!
