Dear USET/USET SPF Family,
The White House Council on Native American Affairs (WHCNAA) is hosting a Tribal consultation to receive input and feedback on its draft, “Best Practices Guide for Federal Agencies Regarding Tribal and Native Hawaiian Sacred Sites” (Sacred Sites Best Practices Guide). In response to Tribal Nation requests for the federal government to take further actions to protect sacred sites, WHCNAA has developed a draft Sacred Sites Best Practices Guide. This draft has been included in the Dear Tribal Leader Letter issued by WHCNAA and can be viewed by clicking here. The draft includes information about foundational federal Indian law, Tribal sovereignty, and how the federal government can work with Tribal Nations to protect sacred sites.
Details regarding this upcoming consultation are as follows—
Written comments in response to the WHCNAA Sacred Sites Best Practices Guide are due Friday, September 29, 2023 and can be submitted to whcnaa@bia.gov. To view Framing Questions as well as the draft Sacred Sites Best Practices Guide, please view the Dear Tribal Leader Letter by clicking here.
