FSU students help St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge plan for its future

For the first time in 13 years, officials at St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge are updating their comprehensive plan. Once completed, the plan will serve as a blueprint for preserving the refuge while accommodating the 250,000 visitors it attracts annually. As they tackle this dual challenge of tourism and conservation, officials at St. Marks are looking to Florida State University planning students for help. Read more ...

FSU Campus Recreation’s virtual classes allow students to be ‘Active Anywhere’

FSU Campus Recreation is offering a variety of live fitness classes in response to the university’s recent transition to remote learning. Twenty-three classes are currently offered Monday through Friday and can be accessed through students’ FSU Zoom accounts. Read more ...

FSU modern languages professor wins fellowship to pursue book on Caribbean history

Martin Munro, Eminent Scholar and the Winthrop-King Professor of French and Francophone Studies, has won a residential fellowship from the National Humanities Center and will spend the 2020-2021 academic year at NHC’s campus in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. He will use that time to complete a book, “Listening to the Caribbean: Sounds of Slavery, Resistance, and Freedom.” Read more ...

FSU faculty member discusses economics of the Beatles breakup, 50 years later

Fifty years ago — on April 10, 1970 — the Beatles, the most commercially successful and artistically innovative band of the 1960s, officially broke up.  That decision was good for the band as well as pop music, according to Sam Staley, director of the DeVoe L. Moore Center at Florida State University. Staley is the author of a new book, “The Beatles and Economics: Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and the Making of a Cultural Revolution.” Read more ...
