Due to budget limitations, Stark Area Regional Transit Authority (SARTA) will discontinue Wayne County Transit (WCT) service on August 31, 2024. Community Action of Wayne/Medina (CAW/M) contracts with SARTA to operate this curb-to-curb service in the county from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
Here is what we're doing:
• Building a new public transit system. The City of Wooster, the Wayne County Commissioners and Community Action of Wayne/Medina (CAW/M) are working with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to reorganize how transit is governed, operated and funded in Wayne County. The City of Wooster will establish a new combined city and county transit system as quickly as possible. This could take a year or more.
• Seeking interim assistance. We know this interim time will create hardships for customers relying on WCT and contracted transportation services. We are working cooperatively with local governments, employers, community foundations, charitable non-profits and private transportation services to identify and provide interim transportation assistance to the extent possible until we can start the new transit system.
What this means for riders:
• SARTA and CAW/M will stop signing up new WCT customers immediately since county service will end on August 31.• Contracted Services: SARTA will discontinue contracted services with the Wayne County Board of Developmental Disabilities effective August 31.
• Wooster City Transit will continue to provide fixed-route transit service for registered riders on the shuttle loop within the City of Wooster. CAW/M contracts with SHARE Mobility to operate this service.
• Wooster Transportation Assistance Program: Taxi trip passes will remain available for eligible residents within Wooster City limits. We apologize for this inconvenience and remain committed to providing vital transportation services for qualifying Wayne County residents.
