Cloud portals: a help or hindrance in the pressroom?
Dear ,
Welcome to InkConnection – the newsletter that brings you ideas for easier ink handling in package printing.
In this edition, we ask whether the proliferation of different service portals is becoming more a hindrance than a help for converters. A service portal enables machine vendors to provide remote, fast problem solving and online ordering of spare parts. But should every machine, equipment and software vendor offer one?
Is software integration the answer? In our new article on the InkConnection blog, we ask if converters are better served by one single industry-standard cloud that holds all suppliers’ support services. Instead of developing clouds, we’ve focused on making our own software integrate with ink manufacturers’ portals – so converters save time with processes like colour matching or ink supply, without overburdening the IT system.
Why are there no hazard symbols on buckets with blended ink? Whenever ink manufacturers supply base inks that contain hazardous chemicals, they come with appropriate warning labels, attached to the barrels. But that critical information – featuring recognized symbols - isn’t automatically transferred if that ink gets processed. What if you blend a special colour with these base colours? Then the bucket with the blended colour has no hazard symbols. That’s why we’re filling the information gap by introducing the new GSE Hazard symbol printing software module.
