Joint health and safety committees (JHSCs) are crucial for creating injury-free workplaces in New Brunswick. They serve as key communication links between workers and employers. 

Responding to client feedback, we've developed a revised webpage titled What you need to know on the JHSC Centre. This update addresses the need for comprehensive information on starting a JHSC, including:

• How to start a committee
• An interactive guide for developing a Terms of Reference
• How to improve your committees’ effectiveness

During phase III amendments to General Regulation 91-191, changes were made to the section on lasers. Laser is an acronym for "Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation." Lasers are beams of light, also known as optical radiation, that have unique qualities that make them useful in certain workplaces.

Working in the woods has the potential to be dangerous. Knowing and recognizing hazards that exist, the proper way to perform each task and establishing an emergency procedure can help avoid injury and mishap.

New Brunswick artists play a vital role in shaping our province's cultural industry. WorkSafeNB is asking for your input to learn more about workplace injuries and illnesses experienced by professional artists. With the data collected, WorkSafeNB will:

1. Develop industry-specific information on occupational injury and illness prevention based on the injuries and illness experienced by artists; and
2. Increase knowledge of artists and their professional associations on accessing workers’ compensation coverage.

WorkSafeNB's health and safety officers and occupational hygienists are given legislative authority to write orders under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, to improve safety and prevent accidents in New Brunswick workplaces.

When these orders are not complied with, or when an accident has taken place as a result of a violation of the Act and/or its regulations, WorkSafeNB may recommend charges to the Department of Justice.
