Florida State identified as top performer for black student success

FSU has one of the highest graduation rates among African-American students of nearly 700 universities examined in a new national study. The report from The Education Trust finds 74.5 percent of FSU’s African-American students — who make up 8.4 percent of the student body — graduate within six years. Nationally, about 40 percent of full-time, African-American students earn a degree in six years. Read more ...

Newsweek: FSU researcher spearheads breakthrough in suicide prediction

Newsweek features FSU researcher Jessica Ribeiro's groundbreaking project that makes an exponential advance in suicide prediction, potentially giving clinicians the ability to predict who will attempt suicide. The study offers a fascinating finding: machine learning — a future frontier for artificial intelligence — can predict with 80-90 percent accuracy whether someone will attempt suicide as far off as two years into the future. FSU student-veterans participate in VFW National Legislative Conference

Two FSU student-veterans attended the VFW National Legislative Conference from Feb. 26 to March 3 in Washington, D.C., to advocate on behalf of all student-veterans, service members and their families. Ryan Taylor, a Marine Corps veteran, and Ryan McKibben, a U.S. Army veteran — both natives of Tallahassee — were chosen to represent Florida State at the conference as a part of the VFW-SVA Legislative Fellowship program.
