THE ORDER OF DEBORAH
“FOR SUCH A TIME AS THAT.

Deborah was a judge in ancient Israel and the only female judge mentioned in the Bible. During the period of the Judges individual tribes suffered from the incursions of hostile neighbors, the former residents of Canaan! One biblical source stated that, “the judges, or liberators, were raised up to lead the tribes against their oppressors in open battle or guerilla warfare.
Deborah and Barak were the fourth and fifth judges in Israel. They combined the forces of Zebulun and Naphtali against the Canaanites under the command of Sisera. Deborah was the judge in the Judicial sense, Barak the military leader. The song of Deborah is one of the most ancient pieces of writing in the Old Testament. One Biblical scholar stated that Her song “provides the clue to the victory.” A torrential rainfall changed the Kishon river into a title-wave and swept many of Sisera’s chariots away, and the rest of them were completely bogged down in the mud. Deborah sang the praise of God’s greatness after their win.
Deborah led with excellence. She not only gave wise counsel to the people of Israel, but she was also a warrior and a worshiper of the one true God. “Now Deborah, a prophet, the wife of Lappidoth, was leading Israel at that time. She held court under the Palm of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites went up to her to have their disputes decided.” Judges 4:4-5)

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson
was born in Washington, D.C. on September 14, 1970 where both of her parents taught in public schools. The family moved to Miami, Florida where Justice Jackson attended public schools. In high school she excelled in debate and speech competition. She enrolled in Harvard University in 1988. In 1992, she graduated from Harvard-Radcliffe with a Bachelor’s Degree in Government. She earned a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Harvard Law School in 1996.
After law school, Justice Jackson’s career included private practice, and three federal clerkships, including a clerkship for Associate Justice Stephen G. Breyer at the Supreme Court of the United States. In addition to professional experience in private practice, she also worked in public service. She worked for two years for the United States Sentencing Commission, 2003-2005, and as a federal public defender from 2005-2007. She returned to the U.S. Sentencing Commission as a commissioner in 2010.
She served on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia from 2013 to 2021. President Joe Biden appointed her to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in 2021 and then nominated her as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States in 2022. She took the oath of office on June 30, 2022. Justice Jackson is married to Dr. Patrick Jackson, and they are the parents of two daughters.
Justice Jackson is the 116th Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court and the first black American female to serve. She is an exceptionally well-qualified jurist whose credentials, experience, and evenhanded approach to the administration of justice make her an outstanding justice on the Supreme Court. Justice Jackson combines her expertise as a fair and impartial judge with the other justices on the Supreme Court that remain dedicated, as Deborah and Justice Jackson, to do everything they can to allow “Justice to roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream.” (NIV) Justice Jackson has been “raised up” “for such a time as this!”
Former elitest and racist president Woodrow Wilson, one of the firstpolitical scientists to serve as President of the United States posted that, “All the ills of democracy can be cured by more democracy.” Equal justice under the law is the critical transfusion that the Supreme Court can administer to our wounded democracy. Justice Jackson’s addition to the Supreme Court is a landmark achievement for diversity and representation on the court.
Justice Jackson’s words of wisdom and encouragement are reflective of what is recorded in Philippians 3:14, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
“In the end, we must trust the path we choose to walk, anchored by a firm sense of our potential, inspired by the people with whom we surround ourselves, and bolstered by our willingness to keep on. As I often tell the young people I talk to, including my own college-age daughters, ordinary humans can do extraordinary things. So go ahead, and dream as enormously and as courageously as you can. If you are diligent and well-prepared, relentlessly optimistic, and resolute in purpose, you will be capable of creating a brilliant future for yourself. And, as my own life has shown, no matter where we began our journey, or the missteps we will surely make along the way, we must press forward, girded by our blessings and strengthened by our hardships, whether we are laboring quietly outside the spotlight, or in full view on a public stage, we are, each of us, called to write our story in the chronicle of history, too.” Philippians 3:14 and Justice Jackson’s words are just what true believers in Christ and our nation need in “such a time as this!” After the order of Deborah.

Throughout March we’re celebrating Women's History Month by honoring women in scripture. This morning we meet Martha, the sister of Lazarus and Mary.
Martha enjoyed a close friendship with Jesus.John 11:5 points out…”Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.” We learn through scripture that while Martha was a hospitable woman, during one of Jesus’ visits, Mary chose to listen to Jesus while Martha attended to household duties. Luke 10:40 reveals how Martha complained to Jesus that Mary was not helping her.She said “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself?”
Jesus gently corrected Martha’s viewpoint in Luke 10: 41-42 by saying, “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
In another instance, when Lazarus became sick, Martha and her sister sent for Jesus, confident that he could heal their brother. John 11:3 reads… So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one you love is sick.” But Lazarus died.
We hear Martha’s voice in John 11:20-27 which reads… When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home. “Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.”
Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”
Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
“Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”
To God Be The Glory for Martha, the sister of Lazarus and the lessons her actions teach us. Martha worked hard in extending hospitality. She willingly accepted counsel. She spoke openly about her feelings and her faith. Throughout Martha’s life-changing encounters with Jesus, we see the importance of balancing service with worship, trusting the Lord even when all seems lost and of using our material resources for the glory of God.

Greetings to our Church family and friends!
We greet you in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! On behalf of the Youth Ministry, we ask that you help and bless our Youth with a “unique” opportunity. With the help of the Lord, we will be traveling to Black Wall Street in Tulsa, OK, and the Little Rock Nine historic site in Little Rock, AR, during this spring break in early April 2025. It is OUR duty to teach OUR Youth OUR history because there are those out there who want to erase it! So, that’s where you can help us by participating in our in-house fundraising project “Count Your Blessings.” It’s very simple. All you have to do is take inventory of your house, count your many blessings, by following a list of household items worth a certain amount, tally it up, add it up and that is the amount you can donate OR if you would like to donate a flat amount, then we appreciate that too. Whatever God places on your heart to do, we are thankful for it. Please place your donation in an envelope and turn it in to one of the Youth Directors. We will accept cash, check and donations via our Church’s CashApp and Givelify App. We just ask that you notate your donation to a particular Youth member or to the Youth Ministry. Please ask any Youth for a form or you can pick them up at church.
Also, if you have a Youth who would like to join us in our service and mission, please let us know as our discipleship is ongoing and they are welcome any time!
We thank you in advance for sharing in this wonderful opportunity for our Youth and we ask for your continued love and support because remember, IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO RAISE A CHILD! Thank you and God bless!
Yours in Christ,
Bro. Charles Happy & Sis. Heather Happy, Youth Directors
Rev. Wendell Emerson, Spiritual Leader
Bro. Desmond Duncan, Assistant Youth Director
Sis. Kellye Emerson, Assistant Youth Director

The scripture says in 2 Timothy 2:15, “ Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” On Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 7:00 P.M., nine youths met in person at Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church, ready to learn and study God’s word. They are studying 52 great Biblical Characters of the Bible and learning how God used ordinary people to do extraordinary tasks/things. The first character they study is Moses, who was 80 years old when God told Moses to go and tell Pharaoh to let My People Go. The youth found out by studying Moses and the Ten Plagues, which led them to a deeper understanding of the shedding of the Blood of the Lamb. That Lamb is Jesus Christ. Pleasant Green Youth saw that the tenth plague, the Death Angel, and placing the unblemished blood from the lamb on the doorpost was a type of shadowing of Jesus as their Passover and Savior. Oh, what a night. We Are One!

FLU
Flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death.
Flu shots are available at local pharmacies. Consult your physician regarding a flu vaccination.
RSV
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common, contagious virus that usually causes mild symptoms. In older adults and adults with certain underlying conditions, RSV can cause severe infections.
RSV shots are available at local pharmacies. Consult your physician regarding a RSV vaccination.
COVID-19
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Most people infected with the virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. However, some will become seriously ill and require medical attention. Older people and those with underlying medical conditions like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, or cancer are more likely to develop serious illness. Anyone can get sick with COVID-19 and become seriously ill or die at any age.
The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well informed about the disease and how the virus spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by staying at least 1 metre apart from others, wearing a properly fitted mask, and washing your hands or using an alcohol-based rub frequently. Get vaccinated when it’s your turn and follow local guidance.
The virus can spread from an infected person’s mouth or nose in small liquid particles when they cough, sneeze, speak, sing or breathe. These particles range from larger respiratory droplets to smaller aerosols. It is important to practice respiratory etiquette, for example by coughing into a flexed elbow, and to stay home and self-isolate until you recover if you feel unwell.
Both COVID vaccines and Booster COVID vaccines are available at local pharmacies. Consult your physician regarding COVID vaccinations.
