The State of the Union for Black Women

President Trump will deliver his State of the Union address on Tuesday, February 5th. Despite the lies he’s likely to tell about the state of our union being strong (it’s not!), we wanted to take some time to specifically address the state of Black women today. Here’s our State of the Union for Black Women in 2019. What are your thoughts?  We'd love to hear from you!

Speaking of the State of the Union...

The Democrats have tapped Stacey Abrams to give the response to the President's SOTU address.

ICYMI, Ms. Abrams won the most votes of any Democratic candidate in Georgia's history. And lots of folks (including us!) are hoping that she'll run again.

Here's what Ms. Abrams said in response to being chosen to give the rebuttal: "At a moment when our nation needs to hear from leaders who can unite for a common purpose, I am honored to be delivering the Democratic State of the Union response.  I plan to deliver a vision for prosperity and equality, where everyone in our nation has a voice and where each of those voices is heard."

BlackHer Fact

14% of Black women have an annual income of $50,000 or higher (up from 9% in 2005), as compared to 17% of total females, and 18% of non-Hispanic White women.  See chart below.

It's hard to build wealth when you have so little to save.

To build assets for ourselves and the next generation we must continue to advocate for policy changes to raise the minimum wage, institute universal basic income, advance progressive tax reform, and more.

Even though Rhimes is one of the most successful people on earth, she's open about her struggles.  Her vulnerability and humility are inspiring!

In love and solidarity,
