Finger on the pulse of the market
Hi ,
Welcome to the June Prism newsletter.
The news has been not so joyous this month with continued reports of high inflation / a cost of living crisis, along with rail strikes! Don’t forget to apply for a refund on your tickets if you were affected as some of the Prism team were able to do so quite easily. There is positive news though, the new series of Love Island has started! Just what we need in place of the World Cup this summer. 😝
I’m pleased to announce the London DevOps meetup is next week on Wednesday 6th July. Funding Circle is hosting the event and they will be giving a talk about their DevOps journey both culturally and technically along with another talk from industry leader Andrew, who will be running through his talk; ‘Observability – When three pillars are not enough’. I hope to see you there as this will be the last event before the summer break with the meetup resuming again in September. See the London DevOps section below to register.
In regard to the labour market, it feels as though we've had at least a year of continuous and constant high demand for new staff - it has been relentless! Whilst this is still very much the case, we have just started to see a couple of companies in the tech space buck this current trend and begin to make some redundancies, which is never pleasant. Some big names in the news recently where large numbers of staff have unfortunately been made redundant include Coinbase, Tesla, Klarna, Curve, Freetrade, and Cazoo. Could this be the early signs of a shift in the market? My sympathies go out to anyone who may have recently been made redundant, I am always available for a chat and happy to try and help where I can.
The other day I mentioned to a member of the team how interesting it is that in the recruitment industry we can feel the ebbs and flows of the economy directly through our work. When you operate in the labour market daily, you always have your finger on the pulse of the economy and can sense when things are moving in a particular direction in real-time. Fascinating (or maybe not!).
That’s it from me this month. As always, if you want to talk to me about the market, DevOps trends, etc. do not hesitate to get in touch, it would be great to hear from you. Book a call with me here.
I hope everyone had a great Gay Pride weekend and festivities and here's wishing you all a fantastic July!
Thanks,
Alex (DevOps) Dover
