We've got some exciting events coming up this month, including our first in-person meeting since the beginning of the pandemic. We hope to see a few of you come out and join us!
Last month's seminar "Is There a Loyalist in your Family Tree" featuring Janet Hodgkins, U.E. is now available if you missed it.
We're also putting a callout for next years presentations. Is there something in particular you'd like to learn about? Do you have a story to tell? Respond to this email and we'll get in touch.
Last, but not least, I'd like to mention the passing of Kathleen Jones, former society member and retired Chief Librarian of the Port Colborne Public Library. Our thoughts are with her family.

October 6, 7-8 PM
Join Diane Richard to explore over 20 different places where we might find documentation of death. We are not talking obituaries, cemetery records, probate records, death certificates, bibles, and the records most of us regularly pursue. We are talking of some of the many other records which possibly were created to document your ancestors’ death -- ledgers, societies, poor records, funeral homes, and much more.
Examples reflecting Ontario/Canada will be explored – using Archivegrid (e.g., Mather Funeral Home collection at Trent University), LAC, and other resources to acquire examples.
Open to all members. Register today!

November 18, 7-8 PM
Blanche Augustine, Wainfleet, was a Canadian Nurse in an Army Hospital in France during World War 1. Her great niece, Ann Augustine McKibbon, tells Blanche’s story based on the diary she kept. The talk also puts Blanche’s experiences in the context of the contributions Canadian nurses and other health care professionals made to the war effort. We as Canadians have much to be proud of based on the work of these people.

Guided Spirit Walks
The St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre offers you the chance to explore St. Catharines' past through the stories and experiences of the city's most famous - and infamous - residents through our Guided Spirit Walks.
On location at one of the city's oldest and largest cemeteries, Victoria Lawn Cemetery, our Guided Spirit Walks take you on an evening stroll through the cemetery, where actors, portraying historic St. Catharines characters, share their individual stories in the collective history of St. Catharines.
The walks are held on the two weekends following Labour Day every September. Check the website for tickets and other details or watch last year's virtual production (below).

Surname Research Form & Index |
|
|
|
In an effort to connect the Family History Community within the old counties of Lincoln/Welland, we have developed a submission form that connects to a searchable index. This index allows you to submit one ancestor at a time, which you can include further information and your email address.
By submitting your information, you need to give permission for others to contact you. This permission can be granted on the form.
Please see the example in the index, Happy Researching and connecting with others.
