Tell us something fun about yourself.
I used to drive around a 25-foot-long mini-school bus! In a past life, my sister and I founded a business called “Old Gold Vintage.” We converted a mini school bus into a vintage clothing, accessories + other goodies mobile boutique and drove all around town trying to get others excited about the importance of circular and sustainable fashion.
What book, podcast, or influencer do you recommend checking out?
I love reading a good book. I’m currently enjoying “Braiding Sweetgrass” by Robin Wall Kimmerer. This book is poignant and so beautifully written – I even caught myself on the couch one afternoon reading and crying! (But in a good way!) For podcasts, I can’t fall asleep without listening to “Lore.” Some episodes are kinda scary… but really it’s just very interesting to learn about the history behind common folklore from all around the world. And, the host’s voice always helps lull me to sleep…
What is the one tech tool you can’t live without?
I can’t live without Strava (I love knowing how fast I can ski down a mountain!) and Things – this is such a simple tool to help keep all of my lists and to-do lists in order. I used to use so many post-it notes and then I finally found my favored way to ditch all of that paper! (I know. I know. I’m pretty “old school.“)
If you could go back in time, what would you tell yourself as a new CSM?
The importance of networking is profound. It is wonderful to meet new people and learn from them and hear about their unique experiences. Plus, I have found that the Customer Success community is so kind and supportive and willing to share their advice and recommendations with me, as well as offer their referrals or recommendations when I’m ready to apply for jobs.
How can those looking to break into CS get started?
Again, the importance of networking goes a long way. Think of it as planting seeds – if you plant them now, and nurture them with care & time, they will grow into something wonderful! Also, find yourself a great professional mentor. The value I have gained from this experience is tremendous – I have been encouraged and guided to clearly define my own professional goals, and then work closely with those mentors who truly care about my goals and help push me towards achieving those goals.
