      Recommended Titles for this month

Each month we will be selecting a few eBooks and eAudio books from our Borrowbox collection.

      Banned Books Week

Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Banned Books Week was launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in schools, bookstores and libraries.

Discover some of the titles available to borrow at Swindon Libraries that have been banned or challenged throughout the World.

Supporting Children and Young People's Wellbeing

Research is beginning to reveal the impact that the pandemic is having on the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people.

The Reading Well scheme has a unique collection of books for both children and young people which supports an understanding of feelings and worries and offers coping mechanisms for tough times.

As schools begin to reopen, many of the books on the list cover topics that children and families may be experiencing at this time, including worry, loss and bereavement, and dealing with troubling world events.

A full list of children's titles can be found here.

A full list of young people's titles can be found here.

All titles are available to reserve free of charge.

Some are also available as eBooks, check here.

      Steve Antony Competition

Our summer colouring competition is running until 30 September so there's still plenty of time to enter.

Designed by children's author, and Swindon Libraries' Patron Steve Antony, this year it's all about creating your own silly socks.

      Roald Dahl Story Day

13 September marks the annual celebration of all things Roald Dahl.

If you can't wait until then, our YouTube channel has a selection of Roald Dahl videos to view now, including the reading of Revolting Rhymes and a Roald Dahl quiz.

Subscribe to our YouTube channel and you'll be notified of any new Roald Dahl videos released on the day.

The Roald Dahl website has also created a Party Pack which is available to download and has lots of activities to do at home.

      Library Shop

Working with local artists and authors, the Library Shop holds a wonderful selection of gifts, cards and books celebrating our love of Swindon – and of course our passion for books.

Our Shop, Select and Collect service allows you to browse the stock online before placing an order and collecting.

      How to use the service:

      • Browse the stock through social media or our unique blog
      • Email us at askthelibrary@swindon.gov.uk with your order and telephone number
      • We will then call you to confirm your order and take payment
      • Collect your order from Central Library

      Community Libraries

A number of Community Libraries have also re-opened and are offering a limited service.

As these libraries are not managed by Swindon Borough Council, full details of what's available and any changes to opening times can be found through their own website or on their social media pages.

      Last but not least...

It's been lovely to see so many of you visiting the library recently, thank you for complying with our current guidelines to ensure we all remain safe.
