It May Get Worse Before It Gets Better, But It Will Get Better
Stephen Heleman

Today's look at Moses' life finds him arriving in Egypt, with the Hebrew people agreeing to follow him. Then, things go From Bad To Worse.

Read Exodus 5:1-23 here.

Just when Moses and the people of Israel thought things were going to get better because they were doing what God said, they just got worse. The people were not facing difficulty for their sin, they were facing difficulty for being obedient. If following God makes life difficult, why do it? When life gets difficult, it is time to See What God Can Do.

Exodus 6:1

1 But the Lord said to Moses, "Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh; for with a strong hand he will send them out, and with a strong hand he will drive them out of his land."

God promises Moses that the very hand that was hurting the people of Israel would set them free. It must have seemed impossible; all they could see was pain and hopelessness. But, just because we can't see the hand of God working in and through our difficulty doesn't mean it isn't.

Sometimes, the reason we have a hard time seeing God in difficulty is that we value comfort more than we value God's best. God does want the best for us, in every situation, but we must be willing to go through difficult times to find something better. Your difficulty today may be the path to God's best.

If your life is difficult, ask yourself if it is a result of sin and poor choices; be honest. However, if it is the result of following Jesus, then you need to just...

  •  Gather Straw and Make Bricks. Go to work, love your family, tell people about Jesus, serve your church family. Don't focus on what you can't do or what is being done to you; focus on what you know to do.
  • Seek The Hand Of God. Start by saying, "God I can't see you, but I know you are working." This takes the focus off of yourself and puts it on God. The more we look for God, the more we see Him.

We are not promised that our difficulty will work out easily, or even here in this lifetime, but you will never know if you give up on Jesus. Keep working, keep seeking, and Do Not Give Up On Jesus.
