MESSAGE

from the Chairperson of Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center

Hello from Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center (PYC)!

Ending the first quarter of 2020 is very challenging for all of us, the country and all over the world, which have been affected by the coronavirus outbreak. Our team has been working from home since the past two weeks in hope that it can help to prevent the spreading of COVID-19 in Jakarta.

In the beginning of year 2020, PYC had several activities with Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). This year, ITB is commemorating its 100 years establishment. Along with that, the ITB Petroleum Engineering Alumni year 1970 held its 50th Anniversary. PYC participated in the 5K Campus Fund Walk and the Groundbreaking Ceremony LabTek XVII "Dato' Low Tuck Kwong" on 2 February 2020. PYC also took part in other ITB's activities as well, such as one of the juries for business case competition at ITB Integrated Petroleum Festival 2020, several lectures, and a guest lecture in a class for ITB student.

PYC also had its first MoU with Universitas Pertamina to agree on energy-related research collaboration in the coming months. The research team of PYC also visited a biogas reactor and a solar-PV manufacturing industry in West Java. Those visits enable the team to gain insights from industry players and local people.

To celebrate PYC's 4th Anniversary this year, PYC is holding a paper competition and open application for PYC Energy Awards 2020. We encourage those to apply and there will be rewards for winners of those two competitions.

We thank Ibnu Budiman, a researcher from Environmental Policy Group, Wageningen University & Research, for his valuable opinion on the advance of biogas development. We shared his opinion in this news. For those who may have an opinion and would like to share through our media, please do not hesitate to contact us.

We are excited to share with you our new publications: (1) PYC International Energy Conference 2019 Proceeding, (2) PYC Energy Kaleidoscope 2019, (3) Indonesian Journal of Energy (IJE) Vol. 3 No. 1, and (4) 2nd Episode of PYC Podcast "Energy Drink". Our collaboration with the International Conference on Fuel Cell & Hydrogen Technology (ICHCTF) 2019 resulted on some of the papers being published in our IJE.

Finally, let us pray that the situation would become better soon. PYC will keep striving to do our best, and working for a better future. Stay Home. Stay Safe. Save Lives!

"GEOPOLITICS IN NATUNA ISLAND - INFOGRAPHIC"

Natuna area is "sexy" with not only its fisheries resources but also energy resources. There are 19 oil & gas working areas in West Natuna Block. D-Alpha Natuna Gas Field’s potential gas reserves are estimated at around 46 Tcf (higher than the Masela Block reserve). We should put more awareness on borders issues and our resources management in border areas.
