The IFC is pleased to send you the second issue of its Newsletter, a publication to keep you informed of its activity and that of its members who work for the protection, conservation and enhancement of our heritage. fortified, witnesses of our history. Our Newsletter (4 issues per year) is published in March, June, September and December.

IFC NEWS
Portugal
We receive a message from the President of AFAC, Mrs Margerida Valla which inform us that after the last meeting of Associacao Portuguesa dos Amigos dos Castelos (APAC) Administration on Wednesday 8th of February, all the members decided to become an observatory member of IFC and hope participate to then next General Assembly in October. We are very glad to welcome this Society which work for the preservation of the patrimonial fortifications in Portugal.

FRANCE : ASSOCIATION VAUBAN
December, publication of our last issue with the number 44 of the « Lettre des Oisivetés », the bi-annual publication of the Association intended for its members and partners. At the summary of the publication, we have a relation of the siege of Namur (1692), the operation Jubilee (Dieppe 1942), The Swedish colony of St Barthelemy, The Corean fortifications, The Siege of Bergen op Zoom (1747), The Swiss Guards in France and the chapter 5 of the relation of Historical Panorama of French Fortifications in North America (1600-1758) and some information of the life of the Society. The number 45 will be published for the Congress of Cherbourg.
May 23th, commemoration ceremony of the memory of Marshal de Vauban under the Dôme des Invalides with the military authorities, the descendants of Vauban and the members of the association. Ste Therese Chapel under the Dôme at 12 pm (French time).
June 6 to 10th Association Vauban’s congress at Cherbourg (Normandy) and General Assembly on the 7th of June
Attribution of the Vauban Association Prize. Visit the Cherbourg Fortifications, the fortifications of English Normandy Islands (Guernsey and Alderney) with their fortifications completed during the Last WWII by the German Occupation Army, Vauban fortifications at St Vaast la Hougue, Tatihou and St Marcouf

Napoleon had major works carried out to strengthen the defensive position of Juelich and its citadel, in particular with the construction of a bridgehead on the Roer. On the occasion of major reconstruction work on the road bridge damaged by the 2021 floods, elements of Napoleon's sluice bridge have been found updated.

March 29 th The annual general meeting of FFGL will take place in Luxembourg.
Between April first and July 15 th : FFGL will organise public visits of the undergrounds of Fort Lambert (built by Vauban in 1685), Fort Bourbon (built by Vauban in 1685) and the „Aqua-Tunnel“ (former nuclear air-raid shelter project under the city)
September : After close coordination with Association Vauban, FFGL Luxembourg will join the exploration excursion in Belgium (Liège, Namur, Huy, Dinant, Maastricht and Brussels)
Robert Wagner (president of FFGL) is writing a book about the history of Fort Lambert, one of the three additional French Forts being added by Vauban after the successful siege in 1684 against the Spanish garrison.
FFGL will also act as a partner in 2025 in the organisation of the „LUGA“ Luxembourg Urban Garden exhibition Homepage - LUGA. At the start of the 20th century the French company Mercier was passing due to the political context through Luxembourg for bottling the champagne and selling it into Prussia. Some of the casemates belonging to Fort Du Moulin (dismantled after 1867) as well as new carved huge underground rooms inside the sand stone rocks nearby the railway station were used as storing capacities. To remember this a Special Crémant cuvée “LUGA” will be stored in the ancient “casemates” which will be shown to the public during dedicated visits.

May 5th The CDSG Board of Directors is happy to announced that the CDSG Annual Business Meeting will be held in the Armory Room of the Portland Regency Hotel & Spa located at 20 Milk St, Portland, ME 04101 at 7:00pm (EST). The board urges all members to attend to hear annual reports from the board and committees and to discuss plans for the coming years
September 9 to 18th, Northern Poland : Berlin, crossing the Oder River to Poland to visit night near the Oder-Warthe-Bogen Stellung (the heart of the German 'East Wall' with bunkers, enormous underground communication tunnels of this extraordinary defensive complex), Gdansk (fort of Posen, coast defences of the Gdansk Bay area, including the naval museum), on Hela Peninsula : a Third Reich proving ground and a Soviet nuclear warhead storage complex, Swinoujscie with some Prussian forts, IIIrd Reich fortifications and Soviet batteries.
