Last Monday, Atlantic Cape Community College invited all of its employees to attend separate “focus group meetings” based on their race and/or ethnic group.
An email from Human Resources invited employees “who identify as Black, Hispanic, Asian American, Native American or Pacific Islanders” to attend a meeting at 3pm on Thursday, January 26.
Employees “who do not identify as Black, Hispanic, Asian American, Native American, or Pacific Islanders” were invited to attend a separate meeting at 4pm on Friday, January 27.
We immediately posted this information on our website, and included it in our weekly email update. Within hours, several officials of the college said the separate, race-based, segregated meetings were "a mistake" and "had been cancelled".
