Falconry Heritage Trust grants are available

The Falconry Heritage Trust has a program of grants. FHT is glad to support decoding, printing, translation and editing of unknown ancient manuscripts on falconry from national languages into English, publications of educational materials, flyers, proceedings of conferences on falconry heritage and history. The main rule – if the FHT supports publication of books, brochures or proceedings, the FHT should get the file in pdf format for uploading on the FHT web-site for free and a wider circulation. Average size of grant varies within £400 to £2000. Unfortunately, the FHT has no opportunity to support any commercial projects.

The application form may be accessed by clicking here. Any question should be addressed to fht@falcons.co.uk

World Falconry Day: November 16th

A lot of meetings and projects have been cancelled this year because of the Covid-19, but now, with the slow opening-up in most of the affected countries, and with a little bit of imagination, some projects should be possible, specifically "World Falconry Day” on 16th November 2020! We are making a loud call to every one of you and your club members to organise something to celebrate it.

It can be a small hunting meeting, a visit to a school, a workshop to make some falconry gear, an exhibition in a museum or a fair, a photo or a drawing contest..... and so many others! Please make some pictures and send them to boukje@iaf.org, and give us your permission to use them. We use those photos for updating the UNESCO recognition, which must be done regularly.

Don’t forget the IAF rules for pictures! Here is a link to them. Preference is given to people with birds, birds and dogs, flying birds.

We count on you to share this email with as many falconers as you can, including those falconers who are not part of any club!

AmFalCon Mexico Website Launched:

AmFalCon is an independent IAF-IUCN project for the Americas, providing falconry and conservation information in all four official languages: English, French, Portuguese and Spanish. The IAF and IUCN are already linked to other multilingual IUCN networks, including www.sakernet.org, www.perdixnet.org, and www.naturalliance.org. This type of organizational linkage creates potential for AmFalCon to form falconry-based teams for wider conservation in the medium and long term, thereby perhaps helping to remedy a past de-linkage of falconers from conservation organizations which they started, highlighting the positive conservation work being undertaken by falconers and enabeling falconers to stay up to date with what is happening in other countries within their region, thus facilitating collaboration and a better exchange of information.
Throughout the last few months a dedicated team of falconers from Mexico has been working on the completion of the Mexican satelite site which has now been published. AmFalCon is a live project and will continue to evolve with content being updated and added periodically. The IAF congratulates the Mexican falconers who have made this national satellite site a reality.

The IAF and the Deutscher Falkenorden (DFO) take part in an important farmland biodiversity project in Europe: the Interreg North Sea Region Partridge Project, a project co-funded by the Interreg North Sea Region Programme which show-cases how new and improved management solutions can improve biodiversity and ecosystem services by up to 30% by 2023 at 10 demonstration sites across the region.

PARTRIDGE (Protecting the Area’s Resources Through Researched Innovative Demonstration of Good Examples), is one of 11 projects which were approved in 2016 by the Interreg North Sea Region. In 2019, the project was awarded an extension until 2023. The programme aims to make the region more innovative, resilient and sustainable.

IAF and DFO co-funded logo pins for donors and the project volunteers. We have a number of these at the office in Brussels and anyone volunteering to work on IAF Biodiversity Projects, joining Dr. Michael Greshake in our special working group, will receive one of these. They are not for sale.

A matching enamel pin of a beautiful flying grey partridge was produced by the UK Game and Wildlife Conservation Trusts to raise funds for the project.
