Today marks the launch of the seventh book (Once Upon a Time in Bath) in the Brides of Bath series that began as a trilogy from Kensington Zebra books back in 2002. It was actually twenty years ago when I submitted my proposal for the first three Brides of Bath books, stories of the Pembroke siblings: George, Viscount Sedgewick, his widowed sister Felicity and flighty sister Glee. The third book in the series, now titled The Bride’s Secret (Felicity’s friend Carlotta’s story), was originally published as A Fallen Woman.
After the original trilogy was published, my Kensington editor asked me to add a fourth book to the series. I’m not going to spill the beans here, but I killed off a character from a previous book to create this fourth book, now sporting my original title of To Take This Lord. (Kensington, always wanting to spice things up, titled the book An Improper Proposal which had nothing to do with the plot.)
Around 2006 I parted ways with Kensington, and it wasn’t until after I secured my rights for those stories back from Kensington Books that in 2014 I added my first novel to the series in ten years. Later that year we added a Christmas novella with a fresh romance and all the previous couples (except Carlotta) and tied up some loose ends in this award-winning novella.
But still, readers kept asking for Appleton’s story. And now you have it. Here’s a book description of Once Upon a Time in Bath:
To save his family from ruin, Lord Appleton’s prepared to sacrifice his happiness to marry a peculiar heiress, but more than his happiness is at risk when sinister forces try to come between him and his cat-loving fiancée.
Here are what some of the early reviewers are saying:
A beautiful book with the perfect balance of love, laughter, drama and intrigue.—AnnMarie of Dragonrose Books Galore
The story is a nice mix of romance, family and friends and mystery. Once I started reading I lost track of time and stayed up later than I meant to but it was just too enjoyable to put down.—Sherron of Vine Voice
I enjoyed every minute. There is nothing better than a historical romance that includes romance, humor, and mystery.—SMB
A totally delightful read!—Monica Parkhill
