When we asked Sharron why she decided to become a patron, this is what she said:
“A local resident, I love the heritage aspect and the thought of so many locals learning to swim and enjoying Cleveland Pools over the decades. I’m absolutely in favour of getting people outdoors, being active, looking after their health but also enjoying time together with friends or as a family.
It’s terrific news that DCMS, the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Historic England have all committed additional funds to enable Cleveland Pools to become a reality. As we move forward and recover from the Covid pandemic, sport, outdoor activities and leisure will be essential for families, children and vulnerable people in particular to restore health and well-being. I cannot think of a better project than the restoration of the Cleveland Pools to provide outdoor swimming to the community of Bath and the wider region. I have supported this most worthwhile of projects for over 10 years and look forward to my first swim in 2022.”
Capital Kickstart Fund
The Pools were delighted to be the proud recipient of a £290,000 award from the Government’s £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund last week. The funding will be used to support additional costs we have faced due to the impact of Covid-19. You can see the full press release here on our website.
These words from Oliver Dowden, Culture Secretary, sum up our feelings entirely: “All over the country, this funding is protecting the venues that have shaped our history and make us proud of our communities...”
