Don't drink lots of water when you're eating a meal
By all means drink some water before a meal or sip small amounts of water as you eat, but drinking large amounts of water with food or lots directly afterwards can affect digestion and bloating.
This is because of two things:
- when you drink lots of liquid with food you can wash pieces of food through your stomach before it has had chance to be broken down and that can create tension / blockages / food not being digested as easily
- drinking lots of water after a meal can affect how the food is broken down as the stomach juices/enzymes that are needed on the food surface can be diluted.
The rules are: drink before a meal, sip during a meal and ideally only sip water for about an hour after a meal
