Myconauts
We’re pleased to see that a third issue of Myconauts has just launched. This is a delightful and very popular journal created by Bath-based writer and illustrator Gemma Dunnell aimed at a wide age group, from the very young to the those never too old to ‘care for, and want to explore, the natural world.’ As its name implies, Myconauts is all about the mushroom, explored through stories, illustrations and poetry. This issue is themed ‘Death & Rebirth’ and is focused on the life cycle of mushrooms, the ecological benefits of fungi, why crows and ravens seem scary to us, and a conversation with an environmental activist on Dartmoor community’s bid for preservation initiatives and open access to the historical natural landscape.

Straight from the red carpet: del Toro and stars honour Bath with signed Frankenstein poster
The House of Frankenstein in Bath has just added a new treasure to its ever-growing collection, and this one comes straight from Hollywood’s red carpet.
Wayne Sheridan, who visited the museum over the summer, surprised staff with an official poster from the newly released Frankenstein film, signed by director Guillermo del Toro and stars Jacob Elordi (The Creature) and Oscar Isaac (Dr Frankenstein).
What makes the piece even more special? It was signed at the London Film Festival during the film’s world premiere, with del Toro himself adding a personal touch, inscribing it: “To Bath.”
“We were thrilled,” said museum director Chris Harris. “This was a completely unexpected and very generous gesture from Wayne, who went to some lengths to secure the poster. To have something signed by such an iconic filmmaker, and for him to acknowledge Bath directly, is really touching.”
The addition feels especially fitting — Bath holds a unique place in the Frankenstein story. It was here, in 1816–1817, that Mary Shelley wrote much of her groundbreaking novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, giving the city a legitimate claim as the birthplace of Frankenstein.
The signed poster is now on display as part of the regular museum experience, joining rare memorabilia, vintage posters, and behind-the-scenes artefacts from Frankenstein adaptations through the decades.
“We’re so grateful to Wayne,” added Harris. “It’s a testament to how deeply people connect with this story — and with our museum. This donation will be enjoyed by thousands of visitors for years to come.”

Bath BID secures support for five more years of citywide impact
The Bath Business Improvement District (BID) has announced the successful outcome of its recent ballot, with a majority of local businesses voting in favour of continuing the BID’s work for another five-year term.
“This vote of confidence reflects the strength of our business community and its shared commitment to Bath’s commercial success,” said Allison Herbert, Chief Executive of Bath BID.
As a business-led and business-funded organisation, the Bath BID’s vision is to make the businesses' collective investment in Bath a driving force for a vibrant city — one that attracts customers, investors, staff and visitors, and ensures long-term success.
With 96.4% in favour, the ballot result confirms that Bath BID will continue delivering services and support until 2031.
Over the next term, the BID will focus on four strategic pillars designed to elevate the city’s appeal and resilience: cleansing, security, promotion and partnership.
