Hello dear readers!
What the hell did you think of the slap at the Oscars? I was outraged that Will Smith wasn't escorted out of the room after assaulting Chris Rock. (Most people don't have the option to allegedly say nope, not leaving... and have everyone frozen, unprepared to do anything without talking to legal on how to react.) Here's the thing. You just don't get to hit people, folks. It's that simple. Even Zsa Zsa Gabor couldn't get away with it. (But she slapped a cop.) Don't mess with my Oscars!!
I thought I'd blog about this but maybe I'll just rant more here. In my blog, I was going to bravely share my opinion of Jada and her goopier than Goop Hollywood podcast and table talk thing where she justified her "entanglement" while emasculating Will. (Wait, I shouldn't support either of them. They said they had an open marriage. How did that work out, guys? The fallout from your b.s. is global now.)
And on Oscar night, even though it was supposed to be her husband's big night, (and it truly pains me to say this because the dress was beautiful) she had the biggest dress and train at the gala as she swaggered her way to the front row. I'm no fan of Jada.
Fast forward to the big joke. We all saw Will laugh, but then he caught the eye of the disapproving Jada. And then the slap happened. (Hmmm, was his anger really with Jada?) There are differing reports on what happened next, but did Jada laugh? Was she pleased as Cersei would be, drinking a glass of red wine while making a mother watch her child die? (Game of Thrones fans will get that one). Why wasn't the camera angle pulled out so we could see her inappropriately, narcissistic, and satisfied look while Will continued to verbally berate Chris Rock? All we could see was Lupita Nyong'o surprised expression. (And why was that beautiful woman wearing such a huge, heavy, and unflattering dress. Put that beast on anyone other than her, and you've got global agreement that it was all kinds of wrong).
And then, as fate would have it, Will won the Oscar. I thought my eyes were going to pop out of my head when people in the audience gave Will a standing O. What is wrong with you people? Will's own narcissism took away a special night from the movie and the Williams family, and even though he had a bit of time to effing process what he had just done, he wasn't getting it and spewed tearful, entitled nonsense through his acceptance speech. It was a hypocritical mess. Jaden, another entitled Smith and Will's son, tweeted after the slap, "And that's how we do it."
By all accounts, Will and his entire family were roundly welcomed and celebrated at the Hollywood after-parties. Jada has since released a statement, "This is a season for healing. And I'm here for it." Gawd, she exhausts me. Do you mean on the pressies your podcast will get as you analyze, and come up with some special merch, books, and engagements to profit upon? She's going to Hollywoodize and market the shit out of this.
Come on, Oscars and Hollywood. Clean up your house.
And THANK YOU CHRIS ROCK. You held it together for all of us. Bravely born, my friend. I loved you before, I love you more now.
Sorry for the rant. Pretty upset with this one. It's got a lot of layers and is complicated in a way, but not really.
Much love to you all,
Annabelle
