October 2019

Hello again, everyone, and Happy October!  We have entered my favorite season of the year.  While I'm not a pumpkin spice fanatic, I truly do enjoy the weather, scents, and scenery of fall.  All of that said, the turn of the calendar to October signifies that we're nearing the end of the year, and we're also one month away from celebrating three years at HDD.  As we approach a new year in the office and on the calendar, I encourage you all to provide us with any feedback that you may have.  What have we done or provided during your visits that you have liked or disliked?  What could we do better?  What would you like to see at the office in the future that would enhance your dental experience?  Don't hesitate to drop us an email, call, or tell us in person the next time you'e in the office.  As always, we're incredibly grateful for your support and confidence and never tire of trying to improve.  Have a great month!

National Dental Hygeine Month

This month we celebrate the work that dental hygienists do, especially our two fabulous hygienists Melissa and Keri, and we recognize the importance of good oral hygiene.  Oral health has a big impact on overall wellness, so your oral hygiene routine is really quite important.  The American Dental Hygiene Association recommends focusing on these "Daily 4" practices: 1) brush twice a day, 2) floss once a day, 3) rinse with mouthwash, and 4) chew sugar-free gum.  You should also have your teeth professionally cleaned at least every six months (more often if instructed by your dentist or hygienist).  If you're overdue for your cleaning and exam, make an appointment today, and we'll be happy to go over some specific hygiene techniques for you so that your mouth stays in optimal condition.

Go Pink for Breast Cancer

This month we also want to highlight breast cancer, the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women and the second leading cause of cancer death among women.  Statistics show that one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.  The good news is that 98% of breast cancer patients survive when diagnosed early, but, as with most illnesses, early detection is key!  After the age of 40, women should begin talking to their doctor about their risk factors and when to start mammograms.  If you fall into this category or someone you know does, consider taking a proactive approach this month.  You can also join many in support of research for breast cancer at the annual Making Strides in the Lehigh Valley walk on Saturday, October 26th in Bethlehem.  Visit the link below to sign up, donate, or gather more information.

Team Member Feature

Who better to spotlight during National Dental Hygiene Month than one of our top-notch hygienists!  Keri has been with HDD since April 2019, transferring from another office with 5 years of dental hygiene experience under her belt.  Keri genuinely enjoys being a hygienist.  Her favorite aspect of the career is the ability to create personalized care for each patient and looks forward to seeing improvements in her patients' oral health.  Keri provides a light-hearted and patient-focused approach, making dental check-ups in her chair as easy-going and comfortable as possible.

When she's not cleaning teeth, Keri enjoys practicing yoga, spending quality time with her two young nieces, and playing bingo with her grandmother.  Keri also looks forward to visiting Mickey Mouse just about every year in Disney World!  Join us in recognizing Keri for all of the extraordinary care she delivers to our HDD patients.

HDD Goes Bowling

We took a night off from polishing teeth to polish our bowling balls!  The HDD team enjoyed a night of bowling and snacks at Hampton Lanes.  Dr. Gil came in as the victor, but so much fun was had by all that the whole team felt like winners!

Fall is in full swing now and apple picking season is upon us! The act of eating an apple produces extra saliva in your mouth, which helps to rinse away bacteria and food particles and the fibrous texture of the fruit also stimulates the gums. 🍎 Have a favorite apple recipe or apple-picking photo? We'd love to see them! Share them in a comment, or tag Hamilton Dental Designs : Jose A.
