Announcement: ΕU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network

Dear Network members,

We would like to announce that, following agreement of the European Commission (Service  for Foreign Policy Instruments) and of the GCC Secretariat General-Energy Department, acting as the ‘parent’ stakeholders of the Network, the below changes are valid as of 28 February 2017:

  • The Network is changing its name to ΕU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network. This new name aims to highlight the importance of addressing technology aspects in meeting clean energy targets and in creating relevant EU GCC partnerships.
  • The Working Groups are renamed to Working Areas to emphasize the inclusive stakeholders’ approach of the Network activities in each of the 5 clean energy fields identified.  

The changes will be gradually reflected in the Network website and collateral.

Webinar:  Saudi Arabia National Renewable Programme

Τhe EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network invites EU RES project developers, stakeholders and investors at the webinar on the "Saudi Arabia National Renewable Programme" organised with the Renewable Energy Project Development Office (REPDO), an office of the Saudi Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources, and facilitated also through Saudi Arabia General Investment Authority (SAGIA).

The webinar is scheduled for 8 March 2017 from 12:00pm to 14:00pm KSA time / 10:00 am to 12:00 pm CET.

The Network supports the MENA New Energy 2017 Conference in Dubai, UAE

The EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network is among the Supporting Partners of the MENA New Energy 2017 conference to be held in Dubai, UAE on 25-26 April 2017. The event -formerly known as MENASol - brings senior executives from all over the globe but most importantly brings the key influencers, government officials, C-Level executives from developers and EPCs from the key MENA region. 

The Network Director will moderate a dedicated panel session on day 1 of the event and will contribute in the discussions in the event. Network members can benefit from a special discount offered in the pass.

Workshop & Training: Energy Efficiency: A Key driver for Clean Energy Transition (focus on cooling technologies), Doha, Qatar

The EU-GCC Clean Energy Technology Network in partnership with the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) are organising on May 3-4, 2017 the event with the title: Energy Efficiency: A Key driver for Clean Energy Transition. Day 1 will host a Workshop that will bring together experts from the EU and the GCC to discuss Energy Efficiency and Cooling Technologies suitable for the region, exchange best practices and lesson learned and advance collaboration between EU and GCC actors. The workshop will focus on solutions and methodologies for the built environment.

Day 2 of the event will include series of research seminars and training courses offered on relevant topics.

February 2017 Network Highlights

The Network meeting Key Clean Energy Stakeholders in Doha, Qatar 

On 5 - 6 February 2017 Mr. Frank Wouters, Network Director visited Qatar and had fruitful meetings with key energy stakeholders including the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development - GORD, Qatar Petroleum and the Ministry of Energy and Industry and he presented the Network's mission and objectives and discussed collaboration and synergies.
Moreover, Mr. Frank Wouters took part at the EU-Qatar Joint Business Event that was held on Monday 6 February 2017 in Doha, Qatar. 

2nd Water and Energy Week 2017 in Sharjah, UAE

Mr. Frank Wouters, Νetwork Director was among the invited speakers at the 2nd Annual Water & Energy Congress which took place on 5 - 9 February 2017 in Radisson Blu Hotel in Sharjah, UAE Mr. Wouters presentation covered the topic of The Role of Transport in the Changing Energy Paradigm.

The Network at the first EU-IEF Energy Day and IEF Symposium in Riyadh, KSA 

Dr. Mustapha Taoumi, Network’s Energy Technology Expert was among the invited experts of the first EU-IEF Energy Day that took place on 14 February 2017 at the IEF Secretariat, Diplomatic Quarter, Riyadh. On 15 February 2017 preceding the 7th IEA-IEF-OPEC Symposium on Energy Outlooks.

On 15 February 2017 Dr. Taoumi participated at the 7th IEA-IEF-OPEC Symposium on Energy Outlooks and had fruitful meetings with various energy stakeholders.

The Network at the Middle East Electricity & Solar Middle East Conference in Dubai, UAE

The Network actively supported and took part at the Middle East Electricity & Solar Middle East Expo and Conference from 14 to 16 February in Dubai at the World Trade Centre. In this framework, on 15 February 2017, Mr. Frank Wouters, Network Director, was the Chair of the half day conference Energising the Smart City, organised in association with Dubai Municipality and the Environmental Centre for Arab Towns (ECAT), featuring discussions on how to provide innovative energy solutions to modern cities. The event  included high level addresses and presentations among others from the Ministry of Energy, UAE, Dubai Municipality, Smart Dubai,  United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Arabia CSR Network, Diamond Innovation Centre at Diamond Developers, Sharjah Electricity & Water Authority (SEWA), Philips, Rochester Institute of Technology, etc.

On February 16 2017, Mr Wouters moderated a very interesting panel discussion on Forecasting MEA Solar Project Returns for Financiers, Solar Developers & Partners, with Steve Perry, Global Head of Debt Markets & Syndications, First Gulf Bank, Paul van Son, Chairman MENAT, Innogy SE and Karel De Winter, General Manager, Alsa Solar Systems.

The Network Director was also interviewed by DubaiEye Radio providing insight in clean energy technology trends.The MEE2017 event was a great opportunity for Frank Wouters and Ioanna Makarouni to meet and discuss with energy stakeholders on EU GCC collaboration and match making opportunities.

The Network at the 2nd Exclusive PV & Storage Business Circle – Middle East Reception in Dubai, UAE

Frank Wouters and Ioanna Makarouni took part at the 2nd Exclusive PV & Storage Business Circle – Middle East Reception, organised by Mounting Systems, Minerva Capital Partners, Sharp and EuPD Research on February 14th at the Fairmont Hotel Dubai. The event brought together hand-selected decision makers along the entire solar and storage value chain.
