Not Too Late to Buy Trees in Israel for Tu BiShevat

JNF is making it easy for our schools to participate in the Tree Campaign for Tu BiShevat. The CEEW Religious School has a page on the JNF website for direct purchase of trees which will be credited to the school. Cash prizes will be awarded to the school once we meet certain goals.

Please consider buying some trees through our synagogue's page and feel free to share the link with others.

Sisterhood February Zoom Programming

Uria Roth, our Milwaukee community Shaliach will present, Our New Friends- Israel’s New Peace Agreements on Tuesday, February 9th at 7pm at our sisterhood February Zoom Program.
Recently, Israel signed deals that normalize relations with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan. Bhutan has also normalized relations with Israel. These US-negotiated deals called Abraham Accords Peace Agreement has “been a major policy achievement by the Trump administration.” The Abraham Accords marks the first normalization of relations between Arab countries and Israel since 1994. 
Uria will help us understand why these agreements are happening now and how the Accords will impact the relationship between the Palestinians and Israel. He will also discuss what the future possibly holds for the Middle East. Please join us for this important, timely and hopeful program. Adult Education Presents Milwaukee Jewish Community Relations Council Program on Anti-Semitism

We will be joined by Allison Hayden from the Milwaukee Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) to talk about the most recent trends in antisemitic behavior and the 2020 survey which is just about to be released.

Allison Hayden is the Israel and JCRC Program Associate at the Milwaukee Jewish Federation. Part of her job is to record and research antisemitic incidents and compile a yearly Audit of Antisemitic Incidents for the state of Wisconsin. The 2019 audit showed a 55% increase from 2018 and the preliminary audit for 2020 is showing another jump in incidents. With the concerning changes in trends and the increase of people willing to express hateful attitudes, it has become more apparent how important it is to build community and educate each other. Allison will speak about the current trends in antisemitism here in Wisconsin.

Grants and Scholarships from the Jewish Community Foundation

The Milwaukee Jewish Community Foundation is accepting applications for scholarships for summer camp, young adult Israel trips, and college.  Applications for all scholarships are filled out online and can be found on one website: www.milwaukeejewish.org/scholarships.

Overnight Camp

Scholarships are available to enable young people from the Milwaukee area to participate in recognized Jewish summer overnight camps and summer Israel programs. First-time campers may also be eligible for additional grants through One Happy Camper.

The Sarah B. and Louis M. Kesselman Israel Program Scholarship enables Jewish young adults (residents of greater Milwaukee ages 18–30) to spend a semester or a year in Israel.

College

Applications are due March 24, 2021 for freshmen beginning in the fall semester of 2021

The JCF Hecht Family Memorial College Scholarship program provides $5,000 scholarships to outstanding Jewish high school seniors to help fund their freshman year of college. Awards are based on academic performance, community service and financial need.

Camp Scholarships from the CEEW Sisterhood

If you are a member of the CEEW Sisterhood and have a child or grandchild who will be attending a Jewish camp in 2021, you may be eligible for a camper scholarship. The Sisterhood is taking applications for camp scholarships through March 31st. Any CEEW Sisterhood member as of December 31, 2020 can apply. The Jewish National Fund is providing a unique opportunity for all of us to explore the water management innovations and techniques developed by Israel. For the modest cost of $100 per Zoom seat, JNF is proud to sponsor “Israel H2O: A Virtual Tour of Israel’s Water Solutions.” Tours are planned for each month of February (8-11), and March (15-18). The four-day tours are 2 hours per day, 11a to 1p (CST), on Monday through Thursday. From the comfort of your home or office, visit and develop an appreciation for a country that has embraced the challenges of providing fresh water not only for the people of Israel, but also for the entire region and is willing to share that expertise with the world.

A TASTE OF CAMP!

Students in grades 3-8 and their parents are invited to join each Monday-Thursday through February 2021 for a free series of arts and STEM activities, including Minecraft, 3D design, and paper arts. These sessions, led by URJ camp staff, will give students the opportunity to explore their personal interests and gain new skills in our secure online community.
