Go long-tail with Google Suggest
It can be difficult to create content that ranks for general, less specific keywords - typically, the less specific the keyword, the greater the competition.
So, finding longer-tail, more focused, more specific keyword phrases that people are searching for may the better choice (and might actually bring in more of the right traffic too, even if the numbers may not be as high as content that ranks for the more general terms).
To find these long-tail keywords, you can use Google Search.
Above is an example. Although, admittedly, it's not a great one.
I've typed in 'content marketing' - a very competitive keyword to rank for - and Google has suggested the most up-to-date additional words that people are also searching for, such as:
'content marketing strategy'
'content marketing matrix'
There's a good chance that these long-tail keywords would be less competitive and therefore easier to rank for.
There's nothing stopping you taking this idea further, either.
For example, you could type in 'content marketing strategy' and see what Google suggests next to get even more specific. In this case, the top two suggestions were:
'content marketing strategy examples'
'content marketing strategy template'
So, go ahead and try it yourself. Start with the most general relevant keywords that relate to your business and go from there. Hopefully you'll find some great content ideas to write about.
