Norfolk & Waveney ICB - Pharmacy First Initiative
From Norfolk and Waveney ICB.
This November, IC24, our NHS 111 and out-of-hours provider, is delivering a focus with their teams around Pharmacy First services and utilising the top returning DoS option. From the 17th to the 19th of November, between 07:00 and 00:00, they will be working with their Health and Clinical Advisor colleagues to help further encourage top of the DOS selection. During these times, if a colleague is considering rejecting the top DOS option, they will be required to call a specialist advice line, staffed by clinically-trained, experienced colleagues. These colleagues will review the reason behind the rejection and ensure the decision is within remit, and confidently negotiate with any reasons recorded around the choice accurately documented.
This may mean that as a Pharmacy First provider, you should see an increase in referrals during this period. To provide assurance, these examples will have had input from an experienced clinical colleague and will have been confirmed to be appropriate. This is to help support an increase in the utilisation of the Pharmacy First provision in Norfolk and Waveney for eligible patients.
If you receive a referral and identify that the patient is not suitable for your service, you can refer these calls back to 111. In order to do this, please contact 111 and press option 3, or use the healthcare professionals’ direct line indicated in the email from the ICB, to speak to one of our Health Advisors to make an onward referral.
Please note that if you reject the referral on your IT system, IC24 will not receive this electronic communication so it is imperative that you do escalate the patient back to NHS 111 using the above tools to ensure the patient receives clinical care within appropriate timescales.
Thank you in advance for your support with this, and we would welcome any feedback you have regarding this to the IC24 email address provided in the direct ICB email.
