Dear friends
Hello and welcome to this newsletter from the Royal Sutton Coldfield Orchestra.
For our first concert this season, on Saturday 15 October at 7.30pm, we’re back at Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Hall.
We’ve really enjoyed working with a new guest conductor, Garry Clarke, on this concert of English and German music.
There are three works by English composers opening with Arthur Sullivan’s sparkling Overture to The Yeomen of the Guard. Benjamin Britten’s suite, Soirées Musicales reworks themes by Rossini, and we’ll also play Vaughan Williams’ English Folk Song Suite to celebrate his 150th anniversary this year.
The incidental music that Mendelssohn wrote to accompany Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream includes the Scherzo, Nocturne and famous Wedding March and forms a bridge between the English theme and Schumann’s distinctly Germanic ‘Rhenish’ Symphony.
We hope you’ll be able to join us for what is sure to be a delightful evening.
