Bath Abbey celebrates its 258 volunteers for Volunteers’ Week 2025
From welcoming visitors to ringing the bells for services, volunteers support Bath Abbey's daily life in a multitude of ways. From 2 to 8 June, Bath Abbey will join thousands of charities and voluntary organisations recognising the invaluable contributions that volunteers make across the UK.
During Volunteers’ Week, Bath Abbey will be celebrating their volunteers by hosting a thanksgiving service of Choral Evensong and an ice-cream reception, as well as a week-long recruitment drive on the Abbey floor. Along with this, a number of heritage organisations across Bath will be opening their doors to volunteers for free.
Revd. Guy Bridgewater, Rector of Bath Abbey, said: “Volunteers’ Week is a wonderful opportunity to give thanks to our many volunteers, whose time, energy and enthusiasm contributes enormously to the Abbey’s ability to provide a rich ministry and welcome to people from across the city of Bath and beyond.”
Running for 41 years since 1984, Volunteers’ Week provides a crucial opportunity to thank volunteers and recognise the value of their passion and skills.

New OMEGA Railmaster models at Mallory
A timeless fusion of heritage and innovation, the OMEGA Railmaster collection pays homage to its 1957 origins, a watch released to serve those who worked around rail lines. Reimagined for the modern connoisseur, the new 38mm Master Chronometer models merge minimalist design with advanced anti-magnetic performance, encased in polished stainless steel.
The Railmaster was part of OMEGA’s legendary 1957 trilogy, alongside the Speedmaster and Seamaster 300. Set apart by its pioneering resistance to magnetic interference, the watch boasted a protective inner case shielding its movement. Today, this legacy evolves with the co-axial Master Chronometer calibres 8806 and 8804, offering extraordinary resistance up to 15,000 gauss, visible through elegant transparent casebacks.
Dials in soft grey or beige feature a sophisticated black gradient and vintage-inspired Super-LumiNova markers, ensuring clarity and timeless appeal. The stainless steel bracelets offer redesigned links and a precision comfort-adjustment system, while rich Novonappa leather straps in black or golden brown add understated refinement. Available in four distinct models, the Railmaster invites you to choose your expression of elegance—whether in steel or leather, grey or beige. A modern classic, engineered for precision and crafted for those who appreciate enduring style.

Our June issue is out next week!
This issue, we have a conversation with a digital Obama, courtesy of Rocketmakers, the extraordinary software developers based in Bath. Jane Austen gets a spirited defence from Kyla at Topping & Co., who sees timeless relevance in her Regency romances. Young Burberry campaign star Rio Williams charms with his disarming positivity, breaking down stigmas around disability and visible difference.
We also dive into the vibrant interiors trend of colour drenching, celebrate the Beatles’ Bath visit just before they hit the big time, and embrace life-changing metabolic health and nutrition as well as festival-style outdoor theatre.
Summer vibes abound this month, reflected in our cover – especially if you're near the Royal Crescent, where a song about Angels may ring out.
Keep an eye out as the mags will land in cafés, restaurants, shops, cultural venues and on doormats across the city next week!
In the meantime, you can catch up on our May issue by clicking here.
If you would like to have a copy sent in the post every month, we offer a postal subscription too. Find out more on our website.

LUNCHEON
That’s Richard E. Grant on the cover of LUNCHEON, tangling with giant rhubarb. There are four covers for this 19th issue (featuring Sarah Moon and Paolo Roversi, Paolo Carzana and Amy Sillman), all unconventional in their way, as is the magazine in general. If you don’t know LUNCHEON, it’s a British biannual culture magazine providing a sophisticated mix of art, fashion and gastronomy, laid out like restaurant menu. Interviews, feature articles, essays, opinions, storytelling and image-making are devised around starters, mains and desert, of course, but with this magazine’s pedigree (the publisher’s father was Lord Snowden) the list offers an extensive sub-menu and off-menu items to make your reading experience feel like a pleasurable and extended conversation over lunch.

Vivaldi - The Four Seasons: The Opera, 28 June
On the 300th anniversary of its publication, Vivaldi's The Four Seasons has been reimagined as an opera by composer, author and broadcaster Richard Mainwaring.
The story centres around an ill-fated couple who ignore the warnings of Mother Nature, ultimately paying the price for human folly and arrogance. The protagonists - Bella and Pietro - fall in love in spring; pay no attention to the warning storms of summer; bear a child in autumn; and perish in winter.

Nature-themed mural brings a splash of colour to Bath riverside
Young artists have worked together to transform a graffiti covered wall on the path alongside the River Avon in Bath with a bright and colourful work of art that pays homage to the wildlife found there. The mural is part of a series of improvements to the Bath River Line, a 10km stretch of the river corridor between Newbridge and Bathampton, which aims to better connect the river path to nearby green spaces.
The mural project was a collaboration between Bath & North East Somerset Council and Little Lost Robot, an independent non-profit collective of artists working with social practices across Bath and North East Somerset.
The Bath River Line wil be celebrated in a number of events throughout June at the Festival of Nature. Find out how to get involved here.
