Take yourself on an idea adventure.

I disagree with the old saw that the major
problem afflicting small business is lack of capital.
The major problem affecting businesses is lack of imagination.

Postcard from Barbara

For several years I watched a tiny network marketing company grow into a national organization. This was not a get-rich-quick venture and many of those who ultimately succeeded invested a great deal of time before seeing much money.

Because the company founder was also intrigued by personal development, he invented many ways to help people grow from the inside out.

One of those tools (although it was never called that) was organizing regular events and meetings. Since the sales force was scattered across the country, most people had to incur travel expenses to attend.

Repeatedly, I noticed, that those who invested their time and money were the ones who enjoyed lasting success. By regularly gathering with others who shared their vision, they were sending a strong message to both their conscious and subconscious minds that this dream matters. Of course, they were also gathering ideas that they could put to work in their businesses.

Spending time in the company of others who are forward-thinking can have a powerful impact on our ultimate success.

I am reminded almost daily that entrepreneurs think differently than people who are stuck in a job. One area where this difference really shows up is in thinking about money.

For instance, someone who has a fixed income mentality might wish they could travel and decide to scrimp and save for some faraway trip. Given the same dream, the entrepreneurs among us will start generating creative ideas that will fund such an adventure.

Want to see more of your dreams come true? It might be easier than you think. Transplant yourself in a dream building environment as often as possible.

Gather with others who are motivated and proactive. Make idea gathering your favorite hobby. Listen to inspiring speakers and read eloquent authors who have taken a higher path. Brainstorm with supportive people.

Refuse to believe that you aren’t a good investment.

Discover that when you show up for your dreams, they’ll start showing up for you.

Remove Yourself

In The Art of Travel, Alalin de Botton writes, “It is not necessarily at home that we best encounter our true selves. The domestic setting keeps us tethered to the person we are in ordinary life, who may not be who we essentially are.”

Anyone who has traveled to a strange place knows exactly what he’s talking about.

So doesn't anyone who’s taken themselves to a seminar or program where they can explore ideas surrounded by strangers who are doing the same. Insights that might never occur in our ordinary life suddenly pop into view.

What might have taken months or even years to figure out on our own suddenly becomes obvious and we find ourselves making progress more quickly than we previously imagined possible.

Here are two great places to do just that.
