Pompeii Ampitheatre

The Amphitheatre of Pompeii is one of the oldest surviving Roman amphitheatres. It is located in the ancient city of Pompeii, near Naples, and was buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, that also buried the city of Pompeii and the neighboring town of Herculaneum.

3 Great Italian White Wine Varietals

3 Italian Whites

Let's say you want to watch the soon to be released Blu-Ray remaster of one of the greatest rock films of all time but don't know what wine to have on hand. I wasn't old enough to consider my wine options when I first saw the film at a midnight show as a pimply teenager, but now I am all grown up and a refreshing crisp white from sunny Italy seems to be a perfect accompaniment. Three options come to mind that step out of the plain old Pinot Grigio box..

The vineyards that produce Barone di Valforte Pecorino have belonged to the Sorrrichio family since the 14th century and is currently managed by brothers Francesco, Guido, and Guido’s daughter Annamaria. Nestled in between Gran Sasso and the Mariella mountains, these three have taken it upon themselves to keep up the rich tradition of their land and family’s heritage. This crisp white is made from 100% Pecorino and shows delicate floral notes of blossoms and white flowers. The palate is fresh and minerally, with zingy citrus notes and a firm, saline backbone. This wine pairs perfectly with raw seafood, firm, white fish dishes, and chicken with a light, cream sauce. $17.99

Surrau "Limizzani" Vermentino comes from Gallura, a land of granite rocks and mistral winds on the northern end of the island of Sardinia, home to some of the finest Vermentino made. Limizzani is the name of a mystical site from the ancient Mediterranean civilizations that inhabited the region thousands of years ago. From grapes sourced across all the estate vineyards, Limizzani is a fresh and pure Vermentino that embodies the essence of Gallura. $19.99

Last but not least, Colleleva Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi comes from the Marche, on Italy’s less traveled Adriatic coast, between Emilia-Romagna and Abruzzo. This is the home of the Verdicchio grape, whose name comes from the root verde, describing both the greenish hue of the grapes and the resulting wine. The Castelli di Jesi DOC is one of the largest of the zones in which Verdicchio is grown and surrounds the town of Jesi and its ancient fortifications. This stainless steel tank vinified Verdicchio is sustainably farmed from 30+ year old vines. The perfume is entrancing—at once fresh and rounded, and typical of the grape. There is absolutely no pretension. Pure Verdicchio, vinified and aged with no makeup, with a bit of prickly CO2 left in the bottle to keep it sprightly. Imported by Kermit Lynch. $16.99

Home Brewing Supplies

None Of Our Home Brewing and Wine Making Supplies Are Currently "On Sale"...

...It just looks that way.  Compare our pricing, you may be surprised.  We have much lower overhead because I'm not buying yachts or "interestingly" shaped space ships with my stock options.   "Free Shipping" isn't free, except at Cork 'n Cap where I will happily carry your order out to your car in the parking lot.  To place a grain bill order, you can reply to this email or phone 517-784-0687.  I can usually have it ready in minutes.

La Castillonne Wooden Crate

A Replenished Stock Of Our Top Selling Wines

Chateau La Castillonne Red, our best selling wooden crate Bordeaux of all time, has a sibling. The red has been known for its consistent quality year in an year out. It is a classic 50/50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot that has crowd-pleasing brambly fruit notes, a dryness that lends it self well to pairing with a variety of foods without over powering them, and finishes with firm but gentle tannins.

Chateau La Castillonne White, says “Sauvignon Blanc” on the label but it likely also includes a small amount of Semillon, another important grape from the Bordeaux region responsible for rounding the edges and softening the citrus notes of the predominant grape, giving the resulting wine a luscious structure and mouth-feel.

Try either wine for $10.99 a bottle or grab a wooden crate of 12 bottles for just $108, a savings of almost $2 per bottle. While drier than a typical domestic wine, Bordeaux wines are typically lighter in alcohol and much lower in residual sugar, with minimal chemical adulteration for people who care about such things.
