Although JSDC has been "e-quiet" for several months now, the company has had the pedal to the metal throughout 2022 and never missed a beat! Kicking the year off with the 10th festival showing of our short dance film "Chameleon", to receiving a grant from the City of West Hollywood, winning awards, speaking on panels, attending conferences, teaching public classes, and taking over our very own dance space. (Yes, you heard me right, we've taken over a dance space!) Clearly, Jazz Spectrum Dance Company never stopped and the year isn't even over yet!
We have one more dance festival to attend in Santa Barbara, upcoming company auditions, and our end-of-year showcase at our new home studio, Spectrum Dance Center! Altho we have only been open for 7 months, the city of Lake Forest has awarded Spectrum Dance Center the title, "Best Dance Conservatory" 2022. With Jazz Spectrum Dance Company in residence at SDC alongside Nannette Brodie Dance Theatre, & Jana Taylor & Dancers, I attribute receiving this award to the rich cultural, ethnic, and neurodiverse movement communities we support, uplift, and celebrate! Looking forward into 2023, JSDC plans to be a part of CDEA (California Dance Educators Association) annual conference, produce a new short film, attend national & international dance festivals, and continue to create a welcoming and educational environment in our new home dance space "Spectrum Dance Center".
Jazz Spectrum Dance Company is warmly referred to as "The Gem of Orange County" by the LA Dance Chronicle founder Mr. Jeff Slayton. As the Artistic Director, I intend to continue to curate, refine, and codify Ms. Baltes work and it is my promise to you to uphold the choreographic & technical standards of which she founded JSDC upon in 1982. Jazz Spectrum Dance Company will continue to thrive and take impressive strides forward in the dance world and it is my supreme hope that we continue to be your beloved gem of Orange County! |
