First, thanks for all who added to my bookā€™s successful run last week! Itā€™s a thrill for an author to see her book climb up the charts. If youā€™ve read it and left a review, double THANKS!

Second, happy holiday weekend wishes to everyone celebrating the unofficial beginning of summer: Memorial Day.Ā

Do you know the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day? Hereā€™s a simple explanation from the Farmerā€™s Almanac: www.almanac.com/content/when-memorial-day

When I was growing up, school wrapped up right before Memorial Day. Here in California, our schools stretch into June by a couple of weeks. But the three-day weekend can involve a little getawayā€¦say up to the Sierra National Forest, if youā€™re motivated. (Hopefully I will have photos to share next week. Depends on where we stand with the situation below. Sigh.)

~ My Really Sucky News ~

Last Saturday, we woke up to discover our truck had been stolen from Paulā€™s shop, along with the small trailer that was attached to it. Shock. Really thatā€™s the only word that applies. Sadly, even our little corner of the world is changing. Someone built a ā€œgrow houseā€ (pot farmers) on a plot of land across the creek from us. Although some growing is legal, the size of this operation far exceeds the amount allowed by law. Three weeks ago, an inspector for our new septic line told us she would get it shut down. Itā€™s still operating. Sigh. The wheels of justiceā€¦

Long story short, the trailer was dumped on the side of the road twenty miles or so from us. The truck turned up three days laterā€”totaled. The driver and passenger fled the scene. Thankfully, the driver of the car they hit was not injured.

Hereā€™s Paul with his lovely, tricked-out truck with our new signs, and a few shots I took at the salvage yard. (Notice: they spray-painted over our logos. And the impact of the crash folded the front tire back until it broke off.)

Last week's Q&A was:Ā Do you have a InstantPot? (I just tried hard boiling eggs in mine. #mindblown)

Your answers were about half yes, half no. I didnā€™t expect to like mine as much as I do, but itā€™s helped me out of a Whatā€™s-for-dinner? jam more than once.

My two randomly selected winners this week are:

Jodi Jowers
and

Mary Rieves

(Jodi and Mary congrats. Please email me your pick of either a $5 Starbucks or a $5 Amazon gift card.)

Q&A

No question this week and no newsletter next week. Iā€™m mentally and emotionally shot. Hoping the forest will help me regain my mojo.

Stay well, my friends, and happy reading,

Deb

In two weeks: catching upā€¦.
