Following our Neighbours Day Lilliput Library workshop in March, where we sent three people home with a ready-to-paint library or the flatpack kit to build their own, we were thrilled to see the arrival of new libraries in the Upper Clutha.
This beautiful blue library was put together at the workshop by Phil Beaufoy, President of the Wānaka & District Lions Club, and now has pride of place outside Elmslie House on Meadowstone Drive. Residents at Elmslie helped with the design, sanding and painting of the library and filled it with books, with support from Mitre 10 who provided the materials and paints.
Staff member Melissa Laucht, who attended the workshop and took the library home, said: “Every day, I hear residents proudly explaining what a Lilliput Library is to family or visitors, or showing everyone. Please feel free to visit and take a book, leave a book, and give a wave to our residents - they love looking out the windows to see who's visiting our little Lilliput Library.”
Keep your eyes peeled for more libraries coming soon! We’re also working on creating a Lilliput Library Resource Centre on our website, where people can view the locations of all the current libraries, find out what resources are available and get building their own - coming soon!
