Spring is the time to look forward to the coming year, in these un-certain times we are hopeful we can welcome guests back at some point. We are taking bookings, there seems to be enthusiasm for June which is a popular month to walk the 3 Peaks!
Book with confidence - if you have any concerns in this ever changing situation, we can be contacted to clarify deposits, cancellations and safety related to Covid-19
Our Booking Calendar is open from May 17th following the road-map announcement last Monday
During Lockdown we have be lucky to enjoy our local area in the Snow
Daily exercise was not halted for a bit of snow, one day we looked out from our window up onto Victoria Street, the road going up past the Folly and saw 4 young men carrying Snowboards and Skies.
For a split second we thought we had been transported to the Alps! Although tempted to get our own equipment out it would be hard work to hike up to just get a couple of minutes downhill fun - so we shall wait for the Gondola's to be built!
So on some occasions we borrowed Chris's Mum's Labradoodle - Lucas who loves the snow for Alpine walks and impromptu sledge!
Whilst we have been lucky to enjoy the Yorkshire Dales on our doorstep - you may want to join up with one of our local organisations we support with their online events.
Yorkshire on the TV
Whilst we have had a bit more time and running out of indoor maintenance jobs, the TV has given us a look at our wonderful area on screen. You may be aware of some of these programmes that feature in Dramas or Documentaries in recent months. Here are some links in case you haven't seen them yet.
The new series of Yorkshire Dales and the Lakeswas a seasonal one and follows the fortunes of farmers and local's throughout the year. Cracoe is the closest village featured.
All Creatures Great and Small- the remake of this Yorkshire Classic based on the books featuring vet James Herriot. Arncliffe Village is used in location for a few scenes, we spotted many places we know and cycle past them from here.
BBC's Winter Walks - there has been one near Ketterwell (Baroness Sayeeda Warsi) but recent filming during lockdown was Alistair Campbell walking out of Settle towards Lancliffe so one to look out for!
Joanna Lumley past through last year on the Staycation Express featuring the Settle to Carlisle Railway - around 25mins into the programme is our station in Settle. She was filmed as she boarded the train to arrive in Appleby. Those in the know will see that you don't alight there to step foot on Lake Windermere...but that's how the programme was edited! Home Sweet Home Travels in my Own
Taking of Railways!World's Most Scenic Railway seriesthe second half of the programme was the journey from Carlisle back to Preston via Settle on the Steam Train Princess Elizabeth. Really enjoyed this one, plenty of local knowledge and history of the Ribblehead Viaduct only 12miles away, and of course some spectacular scenery en route and drone footage of the fields outside Settle
The Printed press featured in the Yorkshire Postwrote a piece on Tripadvisor's Top Attraction in a new category of "National Parks" the Yorkshire Dales is 11th in the World!.
This is based on reviews of all hospitality and attractions in/around the Park. We are proud to feature as the Number 1 B&B / Guest Houses in Settle from a list of 22 Properties for Traveller Ranked.
As you may know Chris did his apprenticeship as a chef in London and continued with this profession throughout his career. So it was only right that we should bring out a "Cooking with Chris" small You-Tube Video at the beginning of the year - enjoy! Spoiler alert - Poached eggs!
King Billys News
Our blog called King Billy's News continues and in recent months, we have featured local businesses and people that bring "Experiences" to our area. With the River Ribble coming through Settle it was ideal to speak about Fishing, and also give you an idea on some navigation skills.
