Dear friends
Endings are important. Do you need to know there’s a happy ending before you start reading or watching a story? There’s someone like that in my family!
Mark’s Gospel has an unlikely ending with the disciples afraid, not telling people that Jesus has risen from the dead. (It’s such an unlikely ending that later writers added alternative endings.)
Of course, it wasn’t long before those first disciples were telling the story of Jesus to everyone who would listen. The transformation of the disciples is, for me, the most compelling evidence of the resurrection.
I can’t explain what happened in the tomb – I can see the clear evidence that something utterly amazing happened. Lives were transformed and we can respond. I choose to follow Jesus and his transforming way of love.
It turns out that the ending in Mark’s Gospel is more like a beginning. Every Easter is an opportunity to refresh our journey of faith, hope and love.
