The GEDC was enthusiastic to convene over 70 community partners and leaders at its recent energy markets luncheon. Deepest thanks to the event's headlining speakers, Andy Schwerha from Aux Sable Liquid Products, Matt Hart from the Illinois Trucking Association, and Patrick Evans from the Illinois Energy Association, who shared their expertise on the natural gas, fuel, and electricity markets.
Schwerha shared data indicating that prices for North American natural gas, while projected to remain high, may level off. Hart also projected that fuel prices may soften, emphasizing the trucking industry's focus on decarbonization and cleaner fuels like renewable natural gas (RNG). Evans highlighted regional differences in Illinois power generation which are likely to lead to disparate futures for energy prices and reliability in upstate and downstate Illinois. Questions to the panel from the group revealed that Gundy County and northern Illinois appear to be advantageously positioned to withstand market volatility into the near future.
Thank you to the event's sponsors, Constellation and ComEd, for their generous support.
