Chewy friends,
Supper clubs are a topic that come up fairly frequently among my readers and colleagues. Though the format seems to be, in many cases, something that has fallen by the wayside, a new case may be a sign of a turning tide.
The Iowa River Power Restaurant in Coralville, a legacy in dining forced out of business by its landlord for opaque reasons last fall, is coming back in a big way.
This month, Iowa River Power's owner is partnering with The Highlander Hotel in Iowa City to open The Supper Club — the exact same menu in a new format.
While I was sitting in the hotel's hot tub for a little staycation in January, I heard from other lodgers about the excitement this hotel's supper club used to have in the 60s, 70s and 80s, when it was the highest revenue supper club in the state.
This is a reopening I'm excited about.
There are a few other items in restaurant news creating a buzz, too. Check out the latest on THC drinks, a new Vietnamese restaurant bringing banh mi sandwiches to Hiawatha, and the closure of Outback Steakhouse — which Facebook foodies can't stop talking about.
