Series 2 of The Gold, the story of Britian's biggest heist, hits our screens this Sunday
... and we have an exclusive online story that reveals the robbery's lesser known connection to Bath
It was the biggest gold bullion robbery in British history, carried out by six individuals who escaped with more than £26 million worth of gold, cash, and diamonds. Central to the Brink’s Mat heist of 1983, John ’Goldfinger’ Palmer melted down huge amounts of gold in a shed at his secluded Georgian home on the outskirts of Bath.
This month marks 10 years since John Palmer was shot dead while burning garden rubbish at his home in Brentwood, Essex. It came as no surprise as Palmer, aged 65 and having conned thousands of people of their life savings, had no shortage of enemies. To this day his assassin has not been identified.
To learn more about one of Britain's most notorious criminals and former Bath-resident John Palmer, read our exclusive online story
The Gold series two kicks off at 9pm on Sunday 8 June at 9pm, with all episodes arriving on iPlayer on the same day

Imagine
Imagine is an ambitious new UK glossy launched last week. Published biannually by a new media brand with the same name, it’s focused on a specific intersection of high-fashion, entertainment and popular culture in an attempt to bring something fresh to this scene. The creative force behind Imagine is Huw Gwyther, the entrepreneur associated with two other influential magazines, Wonderland and Man About Town. He says this one is 'built for everyone’ and we can certainly see this one slotting in nicely alongside the likes of Dazed magazine and the recently refurbished i-D and The Face.

Bath duo help GB enjoy historic gold rush at European Rowing Championships
University of Bath alumni Becky Wilde (third from right) and Cedol Dafydd (furthest right) both won gold during a historic day for Great Britain at the 2025 European Rowing Championships in Plovdiv, Poland.
Five titles were won by GB during a thrilling 90-minute spell on Sunday, including a first-ever European gold in the men’s quadruple sculls. Dafydd was part of the triumphant crew, helping GB achieve a European Best Time of 5:35.02 in his first big international final.
Also securing a first major title in a European record time was Olympic bronze-medallist Wilde, who teamed up with Sarah McKay, Lola Anderson and Cam Nyland to win the women’s quadruple sculls in 6:11.00.
Both Wilde and Dafydd began their rowing careers with the University of Bath-based South West Performance Development Academy (PDA), formerly known as the GB Rowing Team Start programme, and represented Crew Bath in student rowing competition.
We caught up with Becky Wilde before her trip to the Paris Olympics where she won Bronze. Click here to read.
